PRVO began developing affordable housing projects in 1997 through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program. PRVO and its affiliate PRVO Construction & Development, LLC have developed 333 three and four bedroom single family homes and 52 apartment homes. Properties are located in Bassfield, Columbia, Greenville, Hattiesburg, Laurel, Mount Olive, Poplarville, and Wiggins. PRVO currently serves as the property manager of all 385 homes and apartments developed by the agency.
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
LIHEAP is designed to ensure that low-income households are afforded an opportunity to offset the high cost of energy demands by providing direct financial assistance and energy conservation information.
A congregate meal is a nutritionally balanced meal served in a specific location such as a community or senior center. Congregate meals are primarily for the fairly mobile senior population. In order to qualify for this program individual must be age 60 or older. PRVO operates congregate meal sites in Forrest, Jones, Marion, and Pearl River Counties. Funding is provided by the Southern Mississippi Planning & Development District.
Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. provides elderly, indigent individuals’ financial assistance through the Community Services Block Grant Program to purchase some prescription medications. Escalating health care costs coupled with low-income makes it almost impossible for low income persons to meet basic health care needs.
Tax Preparation & Budgeting
PRVO completed 424 federal and state tax returns for low-income individuals, obtaining $ 922,789 in Earned Income Tax Credits. the agency set up Volunteer Income Assistance (VITA) sites in Laurel, Hattiesburg, New Augusta, and Collins.
